婚姻家庭法律关系的特点主要包括：
1、主体的单一性和身份性
首先，公民是婚姻家庭法律关系的唯一主体。一般的民事法律关系主体，包括自然人、法人、其他**和作为特殊主体的国家。而在婚姻家庭法律关系中，主体只能是自然人而不能是其他。同时，一般民事领域中的“自然人”，不仅包括个体的公民，而且包括个体工商户、农村承包经营户和个人合伙，而婚姻家庭法领域中的自然人是严格意义上的个体公民，不能做任何扩大的解释。诚然，家庭是一种社会细胞**，但是，如果以家庭(或者是“户”)的形态作为主体从事民事法律行为的时候，它所介入的就只能是一般的民事法律关系，而不是婚姻家庭法律关系本身。
其次，婚姻家庭法律关系的主体是具有特殊身份的公民。在实际生活中，许多社会关系的主体也只能是公民个人，比如同事关系、同学关系、朋友关系等等。婚姻家庭关系是法律关系，不同于一般的社会关系，它的主体必须具有特定的亲属身份。继承法律关系也发生在具有特定亲属关系的公民之间。但是，继承行为是一种死因行为，而婚姻家庭关系的法律效力只及于生存的公民之间，因此婚姻家庭法只规定特定亲属之间享有遗产继承的**，实际上确立的是一种期待权;继承权的实现以及具体的继承规则则需由《继承法》专门加以规范。总之，婚姻家庭法律关系的主体只能是用法定的特殊纽带联结起来的自然人，这种纽带，一是结婚，二是生育，三是收养。所以，法律上的婚姻家庭关系是一种个体公民之间的法定的特殊身份关系。
需要说明的是，古代法律往往把家族的利益作为婚姻关系的基点，因此非常注重协调家族之间的关系，缔结婚姻关系的行为是一种家庭(家庭)行为而并非当事人的个人行为;体质或者**婚姻关系往往也以是否符合家庭(家族)利益为尺度。和古代法律不同，当代的婚姻家庭法律只调整亲属个体之间的关系，不调整亲属团体之间的关系。
2、人身关系的主导性
在婚姻家庭关系和财产关系中，人身关系具有主导地位。
从婚姻家庭关系发生的角度看，亲属关系的创设，绝不是为了追求直接的经济利益，与商品生产和交换具有完全不同的性质。结婚与**，生育与畜牧、收养与雇工都有原则的区别。我国法律充分尊重和维护婚姻家庭关系的本质。在****市场经济体制下，有商品市场、劳务市场和其他的服务性市场，但绝对不能开辟 “婚姻市场”、“亲属市场”，不能把婚姻家庭关系商业化。
从婚姻家庭关系的内容看，虽然它包括人身关系和财产关系两个方面，但是任何财产关系都派生于、服从于人身关系。没有特定的人身关系就不发生相应的财产关系，人身关系的变动导致财产关系的变动。婚姻家庭领域的财产关系往往具有“单务无偿”的特点，不具有“双务有偿性”，不适用等价有偿的原则。比如父母对子女的抚养义务和子女对父母的赡养义务，夫妻之间互相扶养的义务等等都是无条件的，不以索取经济上的回报为前提。
从婚姻家庭关系的**看，血缘关系是一种自然形成的关系，不能人为地加以**。即使父母子女之间发生冲突也不能宣告**亲关系，**也绝不受理自然血亲关系的**之诉。夫妻关系、收养关系是可以****的，但有关的财产分割以及经济上的帮助与补偿，都是这些关系**的后果，而不是它的前提。
3、鲜明的伦理性
以两性的结合与生命的繁衍为基本特征的婚姻家庭关系，是人类社会最古老，也是最恒久的社会关系;夫妻、父母子女、兄弟姐妹一直被视为而且今后也必将是人伦之本。与之相适应的婚姻家庭**，从本质上说是一种伦理实体。在法律对婚姻家庭关系加以调整的时候，绝对不能忽视它的以伦理组合为中心的基本特征。因此，任何时期的婚姻家庭法总是与当时占据**地位的道德观念和为社会所承认的道德规范紧密联系在一起：许多最基本的道德准则成为立法的根据，大量的道德规范被法律所肯定。这是调整其他社会关系的任何法律所无法比拟的。
诚然，婚姻家庭道德具有历史性，总是与一定的生产力发展水*、社会经济与****以及相应的生活方式相适应。正因为如此，许多古老的道德观念和道德规范已经陈旧落后，必定被新的时代所摒弃。同时，由于婚姻家庭基本性质的不可改变性和婚姻家庭观念的`可传承性，许多婚姻家庭道德也具有有民族性，成为优秀民族文化传统的一个有机组成部分。弘扬这些优秀的道德传统，赋予其与******相适应的新内涵，正是我国精神文明建设的一项重要任务，也是我国****婚姻家庭法制建设的一个重要方面。实际上，我国现行《婚姻法》不但充分体现了****婚姻家庭道德的要求，而且已经将许多道德规范法律化。
强调婚姻家庭法律关系具有鲜明的伦理性，并不是将法律与道德完全混同。婚姻家庭法毕竟是人们从事婚姻家庭行为最基本的准绳，而道德往往反映更高的境界，因此，不少道德准则是游离于法律之外的。同时，道德往往偏重于人们对自己行为的约束，而婚姻家庭法则更多地注意从国家的角度确认和保护人们在婚姻家庭生活中的基本**。因此，说婚姻家庭法律关系具有鲜明的伦理性，并不意味着婚姻家庭法的“伦理化”。
4、**义务的相对性和可转换性
婚姻家庭关系的构成，必须有两个以上互相依存的自然人主体。这些主体之间的身份关系具有特定性，绝对不可互易与替代。正是由于不同的身份决定了各自的**和义务，所以，婚姻家庭**不同于民法中其他的人身**。一般的人格权和身份权，比如姓名权、健康权、名誉权、荣誉权等等都是绝对权，而在婚姻家庭领域中，夫妻、父母子女、祖父母(外祖父母)和孙子女(外孙子女)、兄弟姐妹的身份都是相对存在的，基于这些相对存在的身份关系而发生的一切**都是相对权。这种相对性决定了设定和履行**义务时的互动性。在一组关系中，一方的**就是另一方义务，比如未成年子女有受抚养教育的**，他们的父母就有抚养教育未成年子女的义务;夫妻之间一方享有参加生产、劳动和社会活动的**权，另一方就有尊重这种**的义务。
同时，在特定的情形下，多数婚姻家庭财产**和义务都带有单向性，即一方只享有**而另一方只承担义务。这些**义务关系不是固定不变的，**人和义务人将会随着条件的变化而发生转换。比如，在抚养关系中，未成年子女是**人，他们的父母是义务人;而当子女成年以后形成的赡养关系中，父母成为**人而子女变成了义务人。再比如，夫妻一方可能因为特定的条件成为被扶养人，也可能因为条件的变化成为扶养人。
5、客体的特定性
